Our club worked with the Tucker Civic Association to clean up the South Fork Peachtree Creek.  It was a cool, brisk day for the volunteers who came to clean up the area.  The volunteers were divided into two groups to cover the area.  Over 65 tires were collected, a couch, shopping carts, golf club 5 iron, a recliner, a lobster trap (are there lobsters in South Fork Peachtree Creek???) and lots of trash!

What Optimist Clubs Do

What Optimist Clubs Do

Optimist Clubs are dedicated to “Bringing Out the Best in Kids” and do their part through community service programs. Since each Club is autonomous and run by members in their community, Optimists have the unique flexibility to serve the youth of their area in any way they see fit. Optimist Clubs see a need in their community and react to it.
Optimist International officially sponsors several International Programs: the Childhood Cancer Campaign, Internet Safety, the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships and the organization’s scholarship contests (Essay Contest, Oratorical Contest and Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing). In addition, Optimist International encourages involvement in several other community activities:
Respect for Law/Promotion of Non-Violence
Youth Appreciation
Youth Safety
Optimists conduct 65,000 community service projects each year, spending $78 million in their communities. Annually, six million kids are positively affected by Optimist programs.
Some of the ways the Tucker Optimist Club helps the kids in Tucker:
Holiday gift/food baskets
Oratorical Contest
Communication Contest
Childhood Cancer Campaign
Our big fund raiser is a bar-b-que we have twice a year!
Come join us the 2nd and 4th Saturday at 9:00am at Piccadilly. Lets do more for the kids of Tucker! Bring your ideas and join us for great food, great social, great cause, great fun with a great club!

Spring Barbecue Fundraiser

Tucker Optimist Club Combines Yard Sale With Barbecue
For the first time, the Tucker Optimist Club offered a yard sale in conjunction with the barbecue sale fundraiser on June 8, 2013. The profits for the barbecue sale go to the Childhood Cancer Campaign and to local projects.
The club members are becoming well-trained in all aspects of planning, cooking and serving barbecue dinners. The day of the barbecue starts at 3 am when a local cafeteria owner delivers the meat to the bbq pits for cooking. Several die-hard members and volunteers are there to start the coals to begin cooking the pork Boston butts. While telling stories of past cooking experiences, they keep an eye on the sizzling pork and start getting ready to barbecue chicken.
As the sun begins to rise other members show up to help with preparation of the baked beans and the chicken. The logistics of the food serving line are analyzed and fine tuned. When serving time begins, the assembly line starts up, and soon-to-be-satisfied customers pick up lunch or dinner.
The yard sale was a new experience for our club. Members and community donated clothing, toys, books, furniture, and various other items for the club to sell. Business was brisk, and the club added several hundred dollars to the operating fund.
Near the end of the day, chicken, pork, beans, slaw, and bread were packed up and taken to two local fire stations. The firemen were happy to be the beneficiaries of some great food and to know Optimists appreciate their work.
